About me

As of 2025, I am a Professor of Practice in Animation and Games in the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas.  Previously I was the Head of Technology, Pipeline, and Character TD Lead at Brazen Animation since 2017. Before Brazen, I was the Head of Rigging at Reel FX Studios in Dallas.  I have over 20 years experience in the industry as a character TD, modeler, animator, and supervisor. I have trained studios in the past in Maya and generally act as a Maya support specialist among co-workers. I have a passion for not simply getting the job done, but for getting it done efficiently with the best possible quality. Finding ways to develop better workflows and tools for teams is one of my priorities as a Supervisor. Currently I am a Mentor both at work and with RiggingDojo, an online rigging school that I co-founded.

I have taught Rigging courses in Denmark and the Czech Republic, in addition to teaching online.  I won a Maya Masters award in 2012, and was nominated for a VES award for our work on the Looney Tunes Coyote Falls short film.  You can find interviews of me online and in publications, and I have been previously published in both books and magazines (tutorials!).

I am occasionally available for freelance or consulting work, so feel free to contact me to inquire –  josh @ cgjosh.com
